Previous Automotive Work
Over the years, Applications 3D has successfully completed a wide range of projects for leading automotive companies. Our expertise includes generating detailed inspection reports for interior components, exterior assemblies, engine parts, and many other automotive systems. In addition to comprehensive inspection services, we can recreate accurate CAD models for legacy components when original design files are unavailable. We also specialize in reverse engineering existing parts into editable CAD models and enhancing or redesigning them to meet updated performance requirements, custom specifications, or new production goals.

3D Inspection of a complex headlight
Car headlights are not as simple as they appear to be. There is a lot of engineering involved in their manufacturing. This is so that they result in pleasant looks as well as attain the required light-handling and reflection properties. Since the light from a car’s headlights must illuminate distant objects in the car's path, extensive testing is done on the headlight's light-reflection properties. The headlight consists of an injection-molded part, which adds to the problem of producing an accurate final part due to the inherent shrinkages and other variables in the molding process.

So, an aftermarket automotive glass manufacturer took notice and wanted to develop and mass-produce an after-market product. To achieve their goal, the OEM automotive glass had to be reverse-engineered. Applications 3D was contacted to assist them with this task.

Creating Aftermarket Automotive Parts
If a part is not made by the original manufacturer, it is considered to be an aftermarket part. However, aftermarket automotive parts can range from near-identical OEM replacements or be modified to suit a new purpose. When creating aftermarket automotive parts, the OEM part must first be reverse-engineered to ensure proper part fitment. A customer reached out to us, Applications 3D, with a unique project of modifying an OEM automotive part.
